Dear Members,

Please see email below from Tennis Ireland regarding intercounty travel during Level 3. Members who live outside the county can now participate at the club they are registered with.

Updated Protocol - Intercounty Travel during Level 3

The Government’s Level 3 Guidance relating to Domestic Travel released last Friday state that you should “Stay in your county apart from work, education, medical and other essential purposes”. https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/ad569-level-3/

Following queries from governing bodies of sport, the Department of Sport Expert Group met on Thursday and discussed the protocols relating to intercounty travel during Level 3.

The Expert Group engaged with the Department of Health and as of today the guidelines relating to intercounty travel have been amended and now allow people to train / participate at the club they are registered with, even if it is across a county border. The purpose of this amendment is to allow those living close to a county border to train / participate in sport where their club might be in close proximity to their home but across a county line.

We have also been informed that, unfortunately, the guidance, at this time, does not include a provision for travel beyond a county line for participation in provincial or regional squad programmes.

We will continue to engage with Government on behalf of our members in an effort to ensure that the protocols that are applied to our sport are sensible while at the same time minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19.

Regards

Richard Fahey
Chief Executive
